Working in a Tent

Monday, May 13, 2013

Recently, I have been posting about letting you know that I will be in a few upcoming events.  I would like to take the time to talk to you about one of them that will be held Saturday June 8th.

I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful lady in the Barrie area that is a member of the 12 Ladies in a Tent.  After talking with Stephanie for a bit, we were able to come up with an event to incorporate children and photography, revolving around the event topic this year 'Hunger Awareness.'  I am thrilled that I will be able to take lots and lots of photos this day with kids being kids!  Plus it's FREE!

For those of you who do not know about the 12 Ladies in a Tent event , I have posted the website here http://helpinghandsforhungryhomes.com/ for more information.
The entire event is a great cause, helping out the Barrie Food Bank.  If you would like to donate directly to the Barrie Food Bank you can find out how by clicking on their website at http://www.barriefoodbank.org/

Words can't describe how we as a community should pull together and help out EVERYONE in it.  When I said yes to volunteering at this event, I really did not know too much about it or about the food bank itself.  But since I have joined, I have met a few people in the community that truly benefit from the Barrie Food Bank.  It's funny how the phrase 'right in your own backyard' truly is represented.  I never knew how much the food bank helps out every person they can, until I started working on the 12 Ladies in a Tent event.  I am so fortunate to be a part of the kids/family day:)

While planning the event for the kids, I have started to work with many other people in the art field.  I would not have had such an opportunity given to me, to work with great individuals, if it wasn't for the event happening.  I have even started working with a wonderful lady outside of Canada.  I was able to connect with her on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/  I explained to her over email what I was doing regarding the kids event and after a few emails she donated a bunch of lovely props that the children will be using in the pictures that I will be taking.  HOW EXCITING!  Louisa of Party Goodies is such a pleasure to deal with.  Her generosity towards the event will never be forgotten.  You can check out her Etsy shop here https://www.etsy.com/people/PartyGoodies  Let her know how you found out about her; she'd love to hear from you!

Hopefully everyone will be able to make it out to the event.  My part of the event for children will start after 12pm.  I know a lot of the other artists will be there earlier starting their event, but that morning it just happens that I have a prior commitment.  Remember, if you can't make it out, check out the 12 Ladies in a Tent website for all the other events that will be happening over the course of the 4 days.

For those that would like to attend the 12 Ladies in a Tent event, it is happening at the Allendale Station Park June 7-10 - - This is beside the Southshore Community Centre in Barrie.

Have a wonderful evening and remember there is always 'Food For Thought.'  Let's all help out and give the chance to others, so they know where their next meal is coming from; everyone deserves a chance.

Snap(ping) It All Up!

Monday, May 06, 2013

Well, the last few weeks have been crazy busy!  Busy, in the sense that I JUST LOVE IT!  I enjoy being so busy... I've been able to shoot so many new 'things' in the last few weeks, that in itself has made it all worth while why I started Photography as more then just a hobby.

I have done a bit more research with cameras too.  I made the leap and got a new camera and a few new lenses that I can now use:)  Already I have been noticing a vast difference with my macro setting - for those that know photography know how happy I am having a macro lense now with the flowers that are popping up during the Spring season.  Words can't describe how excited this makes me.  I tell ya, it's the little things.

Last month, I had the opportunity to attend a Barrie Mompreneurs Luncheon.  It was a great thing to go to!  I met so many new lovely women, whom all share the same goal in mind - - Help your business grow and help others grow their business.  It was so encouraging to meet women like this!  It has led me to make some great new friends and networking contacts already!  Thank you to those special women!  The luncheon that took place also gave me a new opportunity to shoot some pictures, outside of my realm.  The luncheon needed a photographer to capture all the women that attended and I was it!  The great thing about being the photographer for this luncheon was that it just happened that SNAP newspaper in Barrie was fortunately unable to attend...  So you guessed it... SNAP used my pictures!  The link for the article and my photos used are here... Enjoy the article... I am pretty happy about it.  http://www.snapbarrie.com/index.php?option=com_sngevents&id%5B0%5D=527103

Spring is definitely here.  I will be posting about new events that I am in later this week.  In the words of my own Mom "It's all just so exciting."

Hunger Awareness

Thursday, April 11, 2013

I am curious...  As to what you think the meaning of 'Hunger Awareness' is?  What do you think of when you think of that phrase?

When I think of that phrase, I instantly just want to help in any way I can, to promote a Healthy, Happy and Heartfelt style of living.  I know it can be a 'touchy' subject.  There can be people that look very deep into the phrase "Hunger Awareness," or on the other hand a simple image of a child eating a nice ripe golden delicious apple could be on the 'light' side, if you will.

It's not everyday that a landscape/nature photographer asks its readers what you think of 'Hunger Awareness,' but there is more to the story.  I have been given the opportunity to help out my community in a very profound way.  I have been asked to run an event incorporating photography with a fundraiser; which has the theme this year 'Hunger Awareness.'  It is a subject that I thought I knew so much about as a Canadian and after doing just a little bit of research, I feel like I know NOTHING about it.  I find that in some groups you ask or some people you ask, instantly it could be taken as one of those subjects you're told to stay away from unless you really know the person.  You know, those subjects...  Politics, Ethnicity and Religion.  But don't you think we should be able to talk about it as a group?  Even if it's just the 'light version?'  I DO!

I want to be able to help out in many ways, to benefit my community, my province and my country that I've been given the chance to live in.  I have been fortunate to always have food on the table and always have been told to speak my mind.  Well, sometimes speaking about 'touchy' subjects is not something everyone wishes to talk to you about.  Which, leads to my next statement.... "A picture is worth a thousand words."  Exactly why I got involved with this fundraiser.  Through my eyes, I can elaborate on my views as what I depict to be 'Hunger Awareness' and through my viewers you can create what you think of it.

I hope to do this topic justice for the event.  I will post more about it in the next month.  But I would love to know what you think of 'Hunger Awareness.'  How does it make you feel, when you think of the phrase? What do you envision in your head?  How does it affect you?  Anything you would like to share I would be honoured with reading!

You can let me know anyway you want... Either as a comment on here (my blog) or on my Facebook page or even private message me.

Until then, I wish you all a happy and healthy evening and by no means have I written this blog to offend or upset anyone in any nature.

Your Favourite Secret Spot

Thursday, April 04, 2013

Today, I was speaking with a fellow photographer about places to shoot new scenery pictures.  Might I add here, she is an amazing photographer, who has the ability to shoot the perfect portrait; I only wish I was that talented as her, with my landscapes.  I asked her for ideas on trying to figure out new shooting spots, that might have a look out or a hidden waterfall.  Places that people go but not a lot of people know about.  After this conversation with her I realized everyone has those secret spots that they love.  Those hidden gems that you take your dog for a walk at, or you pack a family picnic, or you go there to read a book.  A place where you know not a lot of people know about and you hope that you are that only person.  A place where you say "I wish I had this place in a beautiful picture, framed on my wall, or on a postcard that I can send to my friend with a caption "Wish you were here."

I know not everyone wants to share those places with everyone, but for a 'free' picture opportunity, you might reconsider, no?

I am asking for your input....

On my Facebook page, for Corcoran Photography, write down your favourite little spot you like to go to.  If you don't want to share it with everyone, then private message me.  If I pick your spot to shoot, I will let you know and send you the digital copies of the location for you to have and cherish all the time.

Remember, if you want to be picked, it does have to be in Ontario:)

Gallery Showing & Contest Winner

Tuesday, April 02, 2013

I am so excited that I have been selected as one of the artists to show my work in a gallery!  I have been selected to show a few pieces at The Art Unique in Cookstown, Ontario.

On Sunday, April 21st, 2013 there will be an open house for the artists in the gallery from
1pm - 3pm.  I will be there too!  I can't believe I have been chosen but I am really honoured that I have been selected to display some work at the gallery.  If you would like more information about the event, email me and I would be glad to answer any questions!

The contest has officially ended!  I am very happy with all the people that 'Liked' our Facebook page and entered the contest!  Thank you to everyone who did so.  The lucky winner Dawn was the one who guessed the correct answer for the picture.  It was a donkey.  I posted a full picture of the animal.  Congrats Dawn!  Remember to keep checking the Etsy site for photos being updated all the time, that way you can select your prize photo.

Keep your eye open for another contest that will be happening shortly.
