Working in a Tent

Monday, May 13, 2013

Recently, I have been posting about letting you know that I will be in a few upcoming events.  I would like to take the time to talk to you about one of them that will be held Saturday June 8th

I was lucky enough to meet a wonderful lady in the Barrie area that is a member of the 12 Ladies in a Tent.  After talking with Stephanie for a bit, we were able to come up with an event to incorporate children and photography, revolving around the event topic this year 'Hunger Awareness.'  I am thrilled that I will be able to take lots and lots of photos this day with kids being kids!  Plus it's FREE!

For those of you who do not know about the 12 Ladies in a Tent event , I have posted the website here http://helpinghandsforhungryhomes.com/ for more information.
The entire event is a great cause, helping out the Barrie Food Bank.  If you would like to donate directly to the Barrie Food Bank you can find out how by clicking on their website at http://www.barriefoodbank.org/

Words can't describe how we as a community should pull together and help out EVERYONE in it.  When I said yes to volunteering at this event, I really did not know too much about it or about the food bank itself.  But since I have joined, I have met a few people in the community that truly benefit from the Barrie Food Bank.  It's funny how the phrase 'right in your own backyard' truly is represented.  I never knew how much the food bank helps out every person they can, until I started working on the 12 Ladies in a Tent event.  I am so fortunate to be a part of the kids/family day:)

While planning the event for the kids, I have started to work with many other people in the art field.  I would not have had such an opportunity given to me, to work with great individuals, if it wasn't for the event happening.  I have even started working with a wonderful lady outside of Canada.  I was able to connect with her on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/  I explained to her over email what I was doing regarding the kids event and after a few emails she donated a bunch of lovely props that the children will be using in the pictures that I will be taking.  HOW EXCITING!  Louisa of Party Goodies is such a pleasure to deal with.  Her generosity towards the event will never be forgotten.  You can check out her Etsy shop here https://www.etsy.com/people/PartyGoodies  Let her know how you found out about her; she'd love to hear from you!

Hopefully everyone will be able to make it out to the event.  My part of the event for children will start after 12pm.  I know a lot of the other artists will be there earlier starting their event, but that morning it just happens that I have a prior commitment.  Remember, if you can't make it out, check out the 12 Ladies in a Tent website for all the other events that will be happening over the course of the 4 days.

For those that would like to attend the 12 Ladies in a Tent event, it is happening at the Allendale Station Park June 7-10 - - This is beside the Southshore Community Centre in Barrie.

Have a wonderful evening and remember there is always 'Food For Thought.'  Let's all help out and give the chance to others, so they know where their next meal is coming from; everyone deserves a chance.

Snap(ping) It All Up!

Monday, May 06, 2013

Well, the last few weeks have been crazy busy!  Busy, in the sense that I JUST LOVE IT!  I enjoy being so busy... I've been able to shoot so many new 'things' in the last few weeks, that in itself has made it all worth while why I started Photography as more then just a hobby.

I have done a bit more research with cameras too.  I made the leap and got a new camera and a few new lenses that I can now use:)  Already I have been noticing a vast difference with my macro setting - for those that know photography know how happy I am having a macro lense now with the flowers that are popping up during the Spring season.  Words can't describe how excited this makes me.  I tell ya, it's the little things.

Last month, I had the opportunity to attend a Barrie Mompreneurs Luncheon.  It was a great thing to go to!  I met so many new lovely women, whom all share the same goal in mind - - Help your business grow and help others grow their business.  It was so encouraging to meet women like this!  It has led me to make some great new friends and networking contacts already!  Thank you to those special women!  The luncheon that took place also gave me a new opportunity to shoot some pictures, outside of my realm.  The luncheon needed a photographer to capture all the women that attended and I was it!  The great thing about being the photographer for this luncheon was that it just happened that SNAP newspaper in Barrie was fortunately unable to attend...  So you guessed it... SNAP used my pictures!  The link for the article and my photos used are here... Enjoy the article... I am pretty happy about it.  http://www.snapbarrie.com/index.php?option=com_sngevents&id%5B0%5D=527103

Spring is definitely here.  I will be posting about new events that I am in later this week.  In the words of my own Mom "It's all just so exciting."
